1 week in the Premier League is a long time

A week ago Tottenham were the pride of London just before the derby you heard no Arsenal player would get in that team blah, blah , blah, fast forward 1 week ,Spurs have dropped 4 points Arsenal have gained 6 leapfrogging them into 4th place. I am not drawing conclusions from that either it’s still early days and there are still 25 games i.e. 75 points to play for.  Also I have told myself the next time Arsenal play Burnley I will watch from the 88th minute we all know the script now.

Another week another win for City even if they had to come back from behind to beat a dogged Huddersfield.  I don’t get when people say it’s cruel when a team that played just not to get beat all game without a shot on target concedes in the last minute to lose the game.  The objective of the game when it was created was to get the ball between those two sticks you call a goalpost right?.. City so far are answering all the questions placed before them, if the core of the team stays healthy they will take some stopping.

His opposite number in the red half of Manchester is doing his best to keep up with City. A last minute win against Brighton keeps the gap at 8 points but the next three games for United don’t look easy. It’s Watford way, Arsenal Away then City at home. If they don’t start playing instead of parking a bus to victory I see them dropping at least 4 points from those three fixtures.  We all know he is going to set up not to get beat at Arsenal and against City but will he take the initiative against Silva’s Watford ?At least Pogba is back right…

Everton slipping down the slippery slope very fast and I don’t get how a caretaker who is obviously way worse than the manager sacked seems to be getting more time to drag them down further. Maybe it’s ok to lose with the caretaker guy, that’s the way I am explaining the situation at Everton.  Next week they face off against another caretaker at West Ham in Moyes, I will look for the result of that match not sure it’s worth watching.

Silva continues to impress at Watford, not just that he is winning but in the manner in which he is winning. I remember when Paul Merson complained about his appointment at Hull, because the bloke  knew nothing about English football as if the likes of Pulis, Moyes, Allardyce who know the league better could conjure the kind of football Silva makes his team play at Watford.

That’s that for this week and football is back tomorrow oh before I forget Liverpool still can’t hold on to a lead and it was also good to see Adam Lallana back on the field I like the guy.

5 weeks in and Manchester is the place to be

Since I last posted DeBoer has been sacked after 4 games and Hodgson has since taken the reigns at Crystal Palace. While I had picked DeBoer for the sack at some point but definitely not after 4 games! I have since aired my feelings about that on my Facebook page and Twitter. Hodgson lost his first game at the weekend and he plays City, United and Chelsea next. if he loses those 3 games would he be sacked too? Anyways that’s the problem for Parish and his American partners at Selhurst park.

Another game week is gone and with 33 game weeks left it is looking like Pep and Jose will be jostling for the Premier League title this season. They are in almost identical positions at this same stage last season and we all know what happened but this season both managers seem to have gotten through to their players and they are playing how their managers want them to.
Still talking about Manchester my mate messaged me to say Jose is back after watching United beat Everton, I was like dude they played a presently clueless Koeman and an Everton team that has gone backward even with all the money spent, he responded you just don’t like the Jose. There is some truth in that response but United will face sterner test and my money is on City at the moment oh and I like Pep too.
I also don’t get when fans give it and can’t take it, on Lukaku’s back all game he scores and cups his hears back at them and you see people saying he is ungrateful! Don’t get fans like that he had every right to celebrate.

Those guys that wear red and have a stadium in North London and their manager finally realised it is important to go to an away stadium against a top side and have a plan! It was a game they could have actually won with better luck but it was a vast improvement from the pasting at Anfield. It begs so many questions but I don’t have time for that this morning. Something in me wants to believe they will play with their mindset going forward but we all know it’s not safe to hold your breath when this team is concerned.

Spurs can’t win a game at Wembley in the Premier League and Klopp and his team still can’t defend. My Liverpool friend messaged me to say Klopp’s honeymoon is over, looks like there is more unrest amongst the Liverpool fans than normal with recent showings. It’s still game week 5 and I expect Klopp to get better and Chamberlain to still be coming off the bench.

Time to get ready for work, I am still jamming in my fantasy league top in all my leagues but one!

One down thirty seven more to go!

Welcome Back Football!

With the first week of the Premier League season completed a few observations thus far;

Arsenal fans are going to need some sort of regular health check if they are to survive the season going by that first game!
Liverpool and Arsenal defend alike increasing the possibility of a top four place for the gunners.
All the big money strikers scored on their debut, Harry Kane still struggles to score in August (wonder why I had him in my fantasy league team) and Jonjo Shelvey is still stupid!
Rooney’s second coming started on a very good note.
Matic is looking like the missing piece to Jose’s midfield puzzle.
Conte looks grumpy and has started his Mourinho season in flying colours, I am wondering if he will see out the season.
Huddersfield are announcing they belong in the big league currently lying second.
The pundits still haven’t changed Jamie Redknapp thinks defending is all about leadership and heading the ball… ( I still don’t know how he gets a spot on on there all he does is overstate the obvious! )

The best performers of the week seem to be United scoring four past Hart, I am wondering if going to West ham is going to do his dwindling England career and confidence any good, that lot are playing like they are battling relegation already. Bilic’s first season looks like a very very long time ago….

I am happy to have football back as part of my weekend and look forward to game week 2.  By the time of my next post Chelsea could have lost two games in a row, they play Tottenham next and are missing Fabregas and Cahill…

Off to tidy my fantasy league, this week has been abysmal!.

St Totteringham’s Day? Not this year

Not this year and rightfully so
Not this year and rightfully so

For the first time since 1995 Arsenal will not finish above Arsenal and I am really not upset about it. I made my peace with that last season but they somehow managed to screw it up but kudos they have not only managed it this year but are challenging for the title.
Since Pochettino took over, this Spurs team have grown from strength to strength and taken on his identity and philosophy, a philosophy where no one is carried everyone puts in a shift! Contrast that to what is going on at Arsenal where there are coasters in the team everywhere you look from back to front. Take for example Arsenal’s most expensive player, in the 4 years since he joined Arsenal I am yet to see him take a difficult game by the scruff of the neck and be the difference! I can’t imagine him being allowed that much time in a Pochettino side with his application on the football field when things are tough. Then you have Giroud, would he get in a Pochettino side? He spends half the time moaning and falling down instead of digging deep and contributing to the cause. I didn’t see the point in him starting today and if it’s true he is wanted in France I will certainly drive him there myself at no cost. I could go on but there is no need it’s glaring what the team needs; an environment where mediocrity is alien and not the norm. Let’s start with if you don’t play well you don’t start and if you do you stay in the team, didn’t see the point of dropping Holding for Gibbs.

Arsenal kinda messed with my desire to blog and post this season, yes I am joining the bandwagon and blaming Arsene for everything. I have processed all that and I think I am back, kudos to the guys like arseblog that blog only Arsenal news and do it like 24/7 takes some mental fortitude!

Finally I do not subscribe to the notion that there is a power shift in North London not that it matters to me, we all know one swallow doesn’t make a summer neither does a tree make a forest. Finishing above Arsenal in a season where they might still come second and Arsenal win an FA cup (for hypothesis reason not that I believe this) but there is potential for a power shift if the situation at Arsenal isn’t arrested and arrested soon! My only consolation was that Chelsea won, yes it has come to this as the boys that were sent to do a man’s job at WHL failed with flying colours.

Another Week Another Change

PRemier League is here again!

Another game weekend and it’s another change at the top of the table with Chelsea replacing Liverpool at the top of the league table, I have a feeling that’s not the last time we are going to see a change at the top. Chelsea seem to be the form team right now, 6 straight wins and no goals conceded and it gladdens me that David Luiz is at the heart of that miserly defence. I get a break from the over exaggerated phrase ” if Terry was there they wouldn’t have conceded that” from the pundits particularly on Skysports. They seem to be averse to anything that breaks the mould of a “typical English defender”.

Chelsea and Spurs face off next week at the Bridge, the form team versus the only remaining undefeated team in the Premier League this season. As an Arsenal fan I am a bit  conflicted but would rather a Chelsea win I kinda like Conte, he almost makes the boys in the blue more likeable since the “fighty one” moved up North to Manchester.
Talking of the fighty one it was ironic to hear him talk about respect before the Arsenal game. I am not sure he knows what that is even if it hit him right in the face! I could go on about this but there really is no need, the internet is awash with this irony when it comes to his antics in every league he has been in.
Yaya came back with a bang scoring two goals in City’s win at Crystal Palace, makes Pep look like he got it right with the timing of his re-introduction after the very belated apology, lets hope Yaya has his employee his mouthy agent on a tight leash going forward. Yaya’s value is directly related to his pitch playing time unlike his agent who just needs a phone and contacts.

I don’t know where Pochettino keeps getting them some other Harry scored for Spurs at the weekend on his debut, the guy has a thing for developing youth. It’s Monday night football today and I have three West Brom players in my fantasy league, don’t know what I was thinking!  It’s gameweek 13 next week here’s hoping Arsenal get back to winning ways.

Time to get behind Leicester

Took me 33 premier league games but with all that has gone on this weekend I am definitely team Leicester now. I watched Leicester today and was glaring to see why they are where they are, talent and quality can only do so much without passion and dedication. If those bottlers in red in north London showed the same desire, organisation, discipline, selflessness and dedication they would be topping the league by miles. If I was given a choice I would take all those qualities over fickle minded quality players.

It’s definitely a two horse race with Manchester United’s capitulation at the Lane, here’s hoping LVG is allowed to run out his contract at Old Trafford. I can’t believe I am going to write this but Tottenham deserve to be where they are, with a squad that young they are doing very well, no so called Ozil or Sanchez in their team and they have been getting the job done week after week, well done to Mauricio but definitely don’t want them to win the league!!

So we enter week 34 next week and it’s Leicester at home against West Ham, they will probably show the red shirt bottlers of North London how to deal with crosses and Spurs are away at Stoke not a good hunting ground here’s hoping they get Stoked!

Someone on twitter said describing Leicester winning the league is comparing it to a cat winning the Grand National, that cracked me up. They haven’t won it yet though but they are just 9 points away now, praying hard they win it. It will also be vindication for Ranieri considering how he was treated at Chelsea years ago when Jose took over, he could be getting the trophy presented at Chelsea where his former employer will be watching with no hope of champions league football next season.

Anyways have a good week people and to the Arsenal fans out there time to get on team Leicester, Arsenal are not winning the league and with performances like yesterday they don’t deserve to! Sense I am still a bit angry yes I am.

St Totteringham day a certainty as we enter homestretch

Thank God the international break is over now we can get back to real football. The Premier League beckons again this weekend and we are in the homestretch with 7 games to go in the season. Can’t believe it’s just 7 games to go can still remember predictions from the likes of Robbie Savage about Ranieri at Leicester making them candidates for relegation and Cech ditching the blue of London for the red of North London, it’s all gone by so fast!
This weekend throws up very interesting matchups with Liverpool at home to Tottenham and Leicester at home to Southampton while Arsenal are at home to their FA conquerors Watford.
Liverpool have 2 games in hand and are definitely in the race for that fourth position along with West Ham, Manchester United and Manchester city and I see them handing Spurs their first defeat since they lost away at West Ham.
Leicester at home to Southampton is hard to call considering that recently Southampton have been leaking in goals and not that solid defensive outfit they were a few weeks back. You always know what you are going to get from Leicester though and I am expecting a draw from this fixture.
Arsenal at home against Watford I am expecting a win after the debacle of their FA cup encounter.
Is this the weekend when Leicester begin to crack as they approach the finish line and appear to be on the cusp of a historic feat? I think it might just be but whether the crack be damaging enough to prevent them from winning the title we shall find out.  The remaining 7 games will be an exciting one and I see St Totteringham’s day still happening this season oh yes I do! You will have to google if you don’t know what St Totteringham day is though.
Grab your popcorn and watch as the most exciting finish to the Premier League unfolds, still rooting for Arsenal to win it, yes yes I am glutton for punishment.

Tottenham to drop 8 points and end up behind Arsenal? Yes or Naw

Yesterday football lost a legend, the word legend is used very loosely these days in football but Johan Cryuff definitely was the epitome of the word legend. He changed the way football would be played forever. Barcelona the best team in the world right now are successful because of the foundations he built in his time there managing the club. Rest in peace Johan heaven has just gained the real special one.

Getting to today’s post Tottenham come under the spotlight concerning their remaining fixtures and title chances. Tottenham currently lie 5 points behind Leicester and 6 ahead of Arsenal although Arsenal have a game in hand. Tottenham’s remaining fixtures are in the order below;

Liverpool(a), Manutd(h), Stoke (a), West Brom(h), Chelsea(a), Southampton(h), Newcastle(a)

The fixtures above are all tricky and if it was the Tottenham team of old I could easily say I could see them dropping point in all but one of these games and that would be the West Brom game at home, but this Spurs team have a new resolve typical of their manager. Even with this new found resolve they are difficult fixtures as we enter the home stretch and I still see them dropping points especially against Liverpool, Stoke, Chelsea and Southampton at home. Manutd at home? You never know which LVG team you are going to get, West Brom are usual spoilers with Tony at the helm but with them looking safe I think that should be easy for Tottenham and the Newcastle away game being the final game of the season, depending on where Newcastle are in the table that could be a tough tough game.

Tottenham do have a difficult run in, probably the most difficult of the present top 3 which kind of brings a little smile to my face as it will be a true test for this young side Pochettino is moulding. Cynical I know, blame the Arsenal fan in me.

The first couple of game weekends post international break  could serve up a twist in the title race. Imagine if Tottenham lose against Liverpool and Leicester beat Southampton or it’s the other way around and Arsenal win against Watford. The more I preview the permutations the more excitement I think this season still has to offer.

Ending with a Johan Cryuff quote; “football is a game of mistakes. whoever makes the fewest mistakes wins”. That could certainly be what determines the title with seven games left and may I add luck too, considering all the dodgy refereeing that’s rife in the Premier League this season. Mike Dean please stay away!!!

Have good Easter people will be back on Saturday to preview Arsenal, oh tomorrow is Saturday so that means tomorrow.
